The role of self-concept Clarity, Identity exploration, and social media use in adolescent mental health study

What is the purpose of this study?

The purpose of this study is to examine how teens' personalities and their use of social media shape each other, and the impact this has on mental health.​

Who can participate in this study?

In order to be eligible for this study, you must:

  • Be 14-16 years old

  • Be fluent in English and have one parent/legal guardian who is fluent in English 

  • Live in the United States

  • Use social media at least once a day (preferably with their own smartphone)

What are the benefits participating?

Your experiences can help us understand how teens use social media to better understand themselves, and the effect this has on their mental health and well-being. This will help us work toward discovering how we can help teens navigate social media effectively.

How long will the study take?

The study will take 5-6 weeks. This includes:

1. A 30-minute study visit

2. A 30-45 minute baseline survey

3. Answering 3 daily surveys over 28 days

4. A 10-15 minute exit survey

Compensation

Participants will be compensated for their participation. The decision to participate in this study is completely voluntary and all information will be kept confidential.
